Artificial insemination, also called intrauterine insemination (IUI), is one of the most expensive fertility treatment procedures.  There is so much that is involved with it.  Multiple tests and multiple consultations are involved, plus drugs and the diagnoses.  Also included is the chance of having to have the treatments more than one time.  The chances of a women getting pregnant during the first go round are very slim, hence the need for multiple sessions.  The more sessions a woman has, the more money she has to shell out.  On average, the sessions can cost $300 - $700 for each visit.

Other factors about artificial insemination include the medical condition of the person.  There are some women who have an allergic reaction to sperm.  If that’s the case, then they will have to use fertility drugs prior to the procedure.  Sperm washing will help rid the sperm of impurities.  Then it gets place in a woman’s cervix or uterus.  In order to get a woman to ovulate, they will be administered drugs.  After she has started ovulating, the procedure can take place. The artificial insemination procedure takes less than an hour to complete.  The woman hardly feels any pain.

The rate of success with artificial insemination depends on several factors such as how old the woman is and their sexual health.  The percentage rate for a woman getting pregnant with this procedure is low (especially for the first time), hence the reason why they have to do multiple sessions.

Knowing how the procedure is going to be paid for is very important.  More than likely, private health insurance companies will not pay for fertility treatments.  However, patients can still try to consult with their insurance company.  There are some states where it is a requirement for the insurance companies to pay for artificial insemination, but there are limits.

Another factor in the cost is where the patient lives and what kind of clinic she is going to.  Since this will be costly, it is important for the patient to make sure that they are comfortable with the cost, whatever it may be.  They can consult their infertility specialist to help them make a wise choice, especially when it comes to having multiple sessions.
