Important Info - Female Reproductive Surgery Overview

Female reproductive surgery is performed to increase and improve the changes of a woman getting pregnant.  For females with fertility issues, female reproductive surgery can make corrections to areas in their bodies that are blocking them from conceiving a child.  There are various surgery procedures that can be used.

Here are a few of the surgical procedures that are used to help increase the chances of fertility in females:

Laparoscopy

This surgical procedure uses an instrument called a laparoscope.  This instrument is placed through a tiny incision made by the surgeon.  The fertility surgeon will remove tissue that has been scarred and fallopian tubes that have been damaged can be repaired.  This is a female reproductive surgery that is used for females who are infertile and to treat the painful condition, endometriosis.

Diagnostic Hysteroscopy

Surgeons use this in order to determine whether or not a female is infertile.  The surgeon uses a fiber optic scope to look at the female’s uterus.  They look for conditions such as scarring, polyps and fibroids.  This is an outpatient procedure, so the patient recovers within two to three days.

Laparotomy Microsurgery

Surgeons will use a microscope for this procedure, which is invasive.  If a female suffers from endometriosis, this surgical procedure can be used.  It is also used to get rid of tissue that is scarred.  If the fallopian tubes have to be reconstructed, the surgeon will use this surgery to do that.  This is a great female reproductive surgery alternative to use for those who are suffering from infertility issues. 

These procedures that are associated with female reproductive surgery also come with risks.  They are no different from other surgeries in that aspect.  After the surgery, patients need to be aware of complications such as bleeding, infections and allergic reaction.  With certain surgeries, the uterus can be injured or a woman can experience a tubal pregnancy. 

Before committing to one of these surgeries, the patient should thoroughly consult with their physician or surgeon to see which female reproductive surgery would be the best for their medical condition.  It’s important for them to know what options are available to help them conceive a child.

The above reproductive surgeries are not the only options for treatment for infertility. Some options are in vitro fertilization (IVF), use of donated eggs, blastocyst transfer, and other fertility treatments.
